Legal Office Supplies

All offices, whether they are law offices or not, need legal office supplies. And if you ARE a law office, then you definitely need legal office supplies! These supplies come in a broad range and variety, from legal pads, secure filing cabinets, vault lock boxes, legal sized cardboard storage boxes, expandable file folders, bankers boxes, legal dividers, legal sized clipboards, and legal pads...oh wait, I said that one already!

Ok, so if you aren't a law office, chances are you don't need all that many legal office supplies. But there are a few things that you WILL need, and this page will describe them in some detail and give you our opinions in the form of product reviews. Our web site will drop some sweet deals on you, so be sure to spread the love and check us out in more detail.

Legal Pads: I don't care what industry you are in or how big your company is, legal pads are essential and that's the bottom line. We keep stacks of the things in our office and I'm constantly grabbing one to jot down notes in a meeting, or brainstorm ideas for new projects and whatnot. There are basically just a few kinds that you need to worry about, regular paper sized (eight and a half by eleven and three fourth inches), and the actual read legal sized type which are eight and a half by fourteen inches. If you run a law office you may want the fourteen inch pads, but most people seem to prefer the regular sized ones (I know I do!).

Once you pick your size, the next decision to make is color. Legal pads generally come in two main colors, yellow and white. Yellow is sort of the traditional legal pad color, but white is perfectly acceptable too. Its really just a matter of preference. Personally I like the yellow as it differentiates them from copy paper that we have stacks and stacks of in the office here.

You can buy legal pads in one or two ways. One: name brand, two: generic brands. Any time you have something that reeks of "legal" or "lawyer", you can bet that someone is going to try to take advantage of the perceived prestige that goes along with that profession. This manifests itself in the name brand legal pads. They slap a marble top and some gold letters on them, and jack up the price to fifteen to twenty dollars for a three pack. On the other hand, you can get a twelve pack of legal pads in the generic form for three to five bucks. For me, this is a no brainer! I always go with the cheap generics. I use pads as scratch paper, or to scribble notes during meetings, or to toss in my briefcase and carry around in case I get a sudden idea I want to jot down. I don't need fancy legal pads that cost a lot of money, and I bet you don't either. So go generic!

Other Legal Supplies: include things like bankers boxes (which are just cardboard boxes of a certain size that are handy for storage), expandable file folders (which are really handy to use as project files when you have a bunch of lose items that you need to keep all together and they just won't fit in a regular sized folder), vault lock boxes (for keeping office valuables in), and secure filing cabinets (which every office should have - yes they aren't really that secure since anyone with a knife can easily jimmy the cheap locks, they are still effective against any casual theft).
